Overview
The Pindari Glacier Trek is one of the oldest and most popular treks in Uttarakhand, located in the Kumaon region and once favored by British explorers—traces of whose era can still be seen in places like Dwali. The trail offers a beautiful mix of dense forests, rivers, rhododendrons, alpine meadows, and snow-clad peaks.
Classified as an easy-to-moderate trek, Pindari is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. The trek starts from Khati village (2,200 m), the last road-connected village on the route, and follows a well-marked trail via Dwali and Furkiya to Zero Point (3,750 m) near Pindari Baba’s cave. Trekkers enjoy stunning views of Nanda Khat (6,861 m) and Nanda Kot (6,611 m) along the way.
The complete round trek covers around 48 km. April and October are considered the best months to plan the Pindari Glacier Trek, offering clear skies and excellent Himalayan views.
Ideal Trekking Season
The best time to do the Pindari Glacier Trek is April to June, when the weather is pleasant with clear skies and temperatures ranging between 10°C–15°C, ideal for trekking.
The Glacier & Its Significance
Pindari Glacier is the source of the Pindar River, which later merges with the Alaknanda at Karnaprayag, contributing to the sacred Ganga system.
