Sar Pass Trek: A Scenic Himalayan Escape through Parvati Valley
The Sar Pass Trek is one of the most popular and beginner-friendly treks in Himachal Pradesh, offering a diverse range of landscapes in a single journey. Nestled in the Parvati Valley of the Kullu district, this trek is celebrated for its transition from dense pine forests and sparkling streams to expansive alpine meadows and snow-covered mountain passes.
The 37 km trail begins from the famous backpacker hub of Kasol and winds through charming, timeless villages like Grahan. Known for being well-marked and manageable, it serves as an ideal introduction to high-altitude trekking for first-timers while still providing enough excitement for seasoned adventurers.
The crowning achievement of the journey is reaching the Sar Pass summit, where trekkers are rewarded with 360-degree views of majestic peaks like Indrasan and Deo Tibba. The descent often involves sliding through pristine snowfields, making it as fun as it is scenic.
Peaks & Scenic Highlights
During the trek, participants witness the dramatic beauty of the Parvati Valley, featuring a mix of lush green valleys and towering snow-capped peaks.
The trail is adorned with expansive alpine meadows filled with vibrant wildflowers during the spring and summer. The shift from the cool, shaded deodar and oak forests to the stark, white landscape of the pass at 4,206 meters provides a visually diverse and soul-refreshing experience.
Wildlife & Nature on the Sar Pass Trek
The initial stages of the trek take you through dense forests of pine, oak, and deodar. Trekkers can enjoy the earthy scents of the forest and the sounds of chirping Himalayan birds.
As the trail follows the Parvati river’s tributaries, you will encounter crystal-clear streams and cascading waterfalls, which serve as natural rejuvenation points. Higher up, the vegetation gives way to high-altitude snowfields where the silence of the mountains takes over.

Tour Plan
Homestay in Grahan Village The adventure begins from the Kasol base camp. After a short briefing, we start our trek towards Grahan. The trail follows the Grahan Nallah through dense pine forests. The climb is gentle, and you'll witness the simple, beautiful lifestyle of the local Himalayan people
Tents at Min Thach as we leave Grahan, the forest becomes thicker with cedar and chestnut trees. The trail gets a bit steeper but offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Min Thach is a beautiful alpine meadow where we set up our first high-altitude camp under the stars
Tents at Nagaru Today’s climb is short but steep, leading us to the Nagaru campsite. The terrain changes from green meadows to rocky paths and snow patches. Nagaru is one of the coldest campsites, offering a breathtaking sunset over the Parvati Valley and distant snow-capped mountains.
Tents at Biskeri Thach The big day! We start early to cross the Sar pass. After a challenging climb through deep snow, you reach the summit to witness 360-degree views of the Tosh and Pin Parvati ranges. The highlight of the day is the long snow slide during the descent. We finally reach the lush green meadows of Biskeri Thach to rest
Kasol Market On our final day, we descend through beautiful pine forests and waterfalls to reach the Pulga road-head. From here, a vehicle will take you back to Kasol, where the trek ends with unforgettable memories of the Himalayas
